Questions

What people actually ask

How much do solar panels cost in Calgary?
Most Calgary homes land between $15,000 and $30,000 before incentives, depending on system size and roof complexity. A typical 8 kW system on a straightforward asphalt roof sits near the middle of that. We give you a fixed price after we've looked at your roof and your last twelve months of bills — not a per-watt number that changes on install day.
Do solar panels actually work through an Alberta winter?
Yes, and better than most people expect. Alberta gets more annual sunshine than almost anywhere in Canada, and panels are more efficient in cold air than in heat. Production drops in December and January, then runs well ahead of your usage from March through September. The credits you build up in summer carry you through winter.
What happens to the power I don't use?
Under Alberta's microgeneration rules it goes back onto the grid and you're credited for it on your bill. Most homes run a surplus in summer and draw it back down in winter, which is why systems are sized against a full year of usage rather than a single month.
Should I replace my roof before installing solar?
If your roof has fewer than ten years left, yes. Panels last 25 to 30 years, and taking them off and putting them back to replace the roof underneath costs real money. We do both, so we'll tell you honestly which one you need — including when the answer is that your roof is fine.
How long does the whole process take?
The install itself is one to two days. Permitting and utility approval put the full timeline at roughly four to eight weeks from signing. We handle the permits and the microgeneration application.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel?
Sometimes. A 100 amp service can often take solar on its own, but adding a battery, an EV charger or a heat pump usually needs 200 amp. We check during the site visit and quote it upfront rather than discovering it mid-install.
